Ancient Pornography?
Thursday, February 28, 2008

I finally went to the Greek masterpieces exhibition at the national museum with Seeming and Aini. Once again we flashed our matric card and managed to get in for free - which is why we keep going to the museum this year. I feel so cultured!

One of the first few exhibits you see when you first enter the gallery

Whoo a lion - it's very Singapore haha

An ancient mirror. There's no way the women back then could fit this huge, heavy mirror into their handbag

An athelete with a discus. Did they exercise naked back then? Running must have been uncomfortable

Ancient art or ancient pornography? What's that between his left arm?

There's a reflection of me taking this picture! Perhaps I should suggest to the museum to use non-reflective glass

I love this! It looks like the woman is trying to push the huge stone onto the guy's head

I couldn't resist! I had to take a picture of his butt (previously on my heritage trail I took a picture of a peacock's butt)

And now for the front view (with Aini censoring some parts)
If I remember correctly this is a statue of aphrodite's husband

It's Aphrodite (Venus) - the Greek goddess of love
(Actually when I first looked at the top half, I thought it was a guy)

Eros - the Greek god of love

Another image of Venus.

Actually I was expecting to see more Greek pieces. Guess I have to go to the Louvre to see more. I want to study ancient Greek or ancient Roman history! They're so interesting. Haiz too bad such modules are not offered in my school. At least studying ancient China was fun :)

GESL is over
Sunday, February 24, 2008

Had my GESL presentation yesterday. Finally GESL is over!! It's very time-consuming and you'll only end up with a Pass/Fail grade. No more meetings :)
Met up with Wanxuan on Wednesday for dinner. We talked about lots of random things like the merlion. Ran into Ying Seah and Eileen at Century Square. It's so funny cos Ying Seah was standing right in front of me and I didn't even realise that it's her until a few seconds later. I'm only capable of writing super short, simplistic sentences now - I'm super sleepy.

New Strategy
Sunday, February 17, 2008

Gone are the days when I try to come up with a business plan. Having outgrown that phase of my life, I now have a new strategy to strike it rich. Wanxuan came up with this interesting quote: cynicism prepares you for life's cruelty.

We've decided to write a book on that and when I become a teacher, I'll make sure the book ends up on the compulsory reading list. Than I can get my NIE friends to force their students to buy the book as well. Considering that we are rather optimistic for a bunch of cynics, Wanxuan coined a new term to describe us: new generation cynics. Perhaps we can write a book on that too.

We'll earn enough money to buy pretty things like a pair of Manolo Blahnik shoes. Life is beautiful

Essay fairy, please help me write my essays. I'll bribe you or reward you with milk and cookies.

Thank you.

Foreign Talent
Monday, February 4, 2008

Yay E-learning week is here! I don't have to travel to the other end of Singapore for an entire week. Wanxuan came up with this theory that the China professors need to go back to China and that's why we have E-learning week. If that's the case, Singapore should continue to attract foreign talent - as long as it means more 'holiday' for me.
